Shave. Tweeze. Wax. Repeat – an endless ritual we all must endure unless, of course, you opt for laser hair removal.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive, safe method used to remove and permanently reduce unwanted hair.
The process involves pulses of light that destroys the hair follicle and hair bulb.
This popular treatment has has actually been around since the 1960s, but it did not become available to the public until the late ’90s.
Since then, laser hair removal has become the fastest and most effective way to remove and permanently minimize hair growth from the face, underarms, arms, legs, back, bikini area, and chest.
How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?
The price of laser hair removal tends to depend on the area of the body getting treated.
According to those who have been liberated from the need to continuously shave, wax, and tweeze, laser hair removal is the beacon of light that has saved us from the perils of infinite hair growth.
Let’s delve into the most frequently asked questions.
Most Frequently Asked Laser Hair Removal Questions:
1. Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?
It is a long-term solution to reduce unwanted hair. While it permanently reduces hair growth, some hair follicles that were damaged but not destroyed during treatment may regrow. After 6 treatments, you can expect a marked reduction in hair. Any regrowth will be lighter and less noticeable and can be managed with touch-up treatments every six to 12 months.
2. Is Laser Hair Removal painful?
Patients can expect a quick “Snap” that is considered more of a mild discomfort than pain. Numbing creams are available upon request, but it is not usually necessary.
3. Will laser hair removal get rid of ingrown hairs?
Yes! Laser hair removal clears away ingrown hairs by destroying the hair follicle and prevents the hair from coiling under.
4. Does laser hair removal work on blonde hair?
As it turns out, blondes don’t have all the fun. Unfortunately, white, blonde, red, or grey hair do not respond to treatment because there is not enough melanin.
Melanin is the pigment found in skin and hair color. Even if you are not naturally any of those colors, but dye your hair on the outside, the treatment still won’t work.
The laser energy goes below the top layer and affects the stem cells adjacent to the hair shaft. There needs to be color all the way down the hair shaft to attract light and destroy the follicle.
5. Can Laser Hair Removal cause cancer?
No! The treatment doesn’t cause skin cancer. The amount of radiation is a minimal amount that does not cause harm to the skin. In addition, there is no research to date that show light lasers cause cancer.
The laser we use at Healthy Solutions Medspa is safe and FDA cleared for the reduction of hair. The wavelengths are in the safe zone.
6. Will Laser Hair Removal help with acne?
Lasers and other light treatments have been seen to reduce acne; however, laser hair removal is not intended to eliminate acne on its own. Other treatments and medications would be best suitable to treat acne.
7. How does Laser Hair Removal work?
Light is used to target and destroy hair follicles responsible for hair growth without harming surrounding tissue.
8. How many Laser Hair Removal Sessions do I need?
Typically, 6 sessions are required to affect all your unwanted hair.
The time between laser hair removal treatments depends on the area you are treating.
Four weeks is recommended between laser hair removal sessions on the face, 4-6 weeks between treatments on the underarms or bikini, and 8-10 weeks between treatments on the legs or back.
9. Where can I get Laser Hair Removal done?
Be sure to inquire about what type of laser is being used, the center’s qualifications and experience, the cost of treatment, and, most of all, read their online reviews.
